I live in the wilderness of south-east Essex, not far from Southend-on-Sea.

I am just about to end an eight-month period of unemployment after 23 years of working as a computer programmer and database administrator in the insurance software business for C.E. Heath, Datasure, Rebus, Rebus IS and Xchanging. I’ve only had the one job, but under five different company names.

I enjoy listening to music and going to concerts. My all-time favourite band is The Comsat Angels. Other big favourites of mine include After The Fire, All About Eve, And Also The Trees, Brandi Carlile, The Chameleons, Lloyd Cole, Elvis Costello, The Kinks, Puressence, Sad Lovers and Giants, Paul Simon, The Sound, XTC and Yes. Up-and-coming bands that I would very much recommend include Evi Vine, Strangers and Hook and the Twin. I’m not a great fan of writing reviews, but I may post the occasional review of a gig or an album on here.

I am a follower of football, and I am involved with a non-League club called Leverstock Green F.C., based in Hertfordshire. I write match reports and run the club’s official website. When I get time between Leverstock Green matches I like to travel to other grounds and watch games as a neutral – this is known as “groundhopping” in some quarters. I have also supported Tottenham Hotspur since 1975, but I only get to see them at most once a season, if that.

I enjoy reading books, both fiction and non-fiction. I read across most genres, among the authors I have enjoyed over the years are Isaac Asimov, Norman Mailer and Robert Crais. I also have a current fascination with Batman graphic novels.

I enjoy travelling, within the UK as well as across Europe and the USA.

My current activities are covered in more detail in the pages accessible from the menu at the top of the page, and I write occasional blog posts about any subject that may take my fancy.
